LO1: Types of Radio stations.

 Different types of radio 

- Public - Funded by license fees and public taxes 

- National Commercial Radio - Get money from advertisements and endorsements, major companies such as Global, will have multiple stations under their ownerships which cater to all different kinds of audiences. Examples include, Capital, Kiss, Heart, LBC and Talk Sport. These companies will run as a method to create profit. 

- Reginal Radio - Can be either public or commercial radio. More targeted towards a particular region. E.g. Radio Sheffield and TX1 Radio. 

- Not for profit radio - Not to make profit and keeps cost minimal. Rely mainly on volunteers to make sure things can be kept running. Mainly found in hospitals and universities. A lot of big name Radio Dj's will have started their career in a university radio. Tailor their content to the people they are playing it for. 

- Community radio - A form of non profit radio. This is when local people produce and broadcast their own programs and participate in operating the station. Covers a small geographical area (around 5km), 

- Internet radio - Uses the internet are a form of distribution instead of using radio waves. The proper term is webcasting, it is a form of of streaming media where content is usually provided live.
