LO3 - Legal and Ethical

When thinking about legal and ethical there are many issues that occur during the pre and post production of radio shows. These include regulation, copyright and also data protection.

Firstly, starting with regulation there are two major regulation companies that look into regulating, these are OfCom and also ASA. OfCom are the main regulators for radio shows, they monitor radio listenership, they also monitor what can and can't be said on radio shows. They also look at consumer interests in relevant marks, this could technology or clothing based brands, with also promote competition where. Furthermore, they deal with licenses for radios and telling them what they can and can't play.

In our program we need to be careful that we aren't going against copyright and legislation laws. This mainly includes using someone else's work without their permission or using someone's work claiming it to be ours, this is plagiarism. This is important to take into consideration because when we are creating our program we need to look for sound effects that are; 1. Copyright free 2. It doesn't go against any plagiarism laws. To stop the second point from happening we could either create our own sounds that work alongside our program or look for free non copyright sounds instead. This also links to songs that we are playing on the radio for example if it was a cover by someone then we would need to ask for their permission and also credit the person as well, however if it was a a big named band such as Queen or Bon Jovi then we would need permission from the record label to be able to play their songs.

We will also need to insure we have a PSR license which in turn will make sure that the radio show gets paid from broadcasting information and promotion about the AirCraft Museum, this will then make the promotion legal and will also avoid any legal battles with ownership of the content. This will also avoid any issues with there being copyright claims on any music that we use and form of ownership that people could try and claim from the radio show.

The next legal and ethical issue is the ASA code which involves any issues such as false advertisement claims, environmental claims and prohibited categories such as endangered animals. These categories will be avoided to be used during our radio show because it could cause many issues and would further not be family friendly and could further lead to the wildlife park losing customers and money from. the content they have be associated with.
